This movie was great for what it was, having a simple plot but with great action sequences and sometimes questionable CGI doubles. After seeing this movie I'm convinced that Vin Diesel would be a great Batman. He has got the brooding aspect of Batman down. What was interesting about the film was how the plot was structured. Bloodshot was a experimental resurrected soldier given a healing factor, super-strength, and a variety of other abilities; he was perfect for the evil plans a certain character had in mind. This led to the structure of the plot to feature similar events to play out of Bloodshot's life as his memories were tampered with by an evil organisation.
One thing that I didn't like about the film was Bloodshot's love life. It got better as the plot developed but the start of his love story was slightly awkward. Probably because Bloodshot played by Vin Diesel and his wife played by Talulah Riley didn't have good chemistry. What I liked about the movie was the bad guy, played by Guy Pearce he was able to switch from pretending to be the good guy, then playing the bad guy with ease. I think without him the film would have been less interesting. I haven't read the comics featuring Bloodshot, but I'm interested in seeing what the filmmakers could do with a second movie. It was announced that Bloodshot will be the start of a universe of movies featuring comic-book characters from the Valiant comic-books. This was announced before the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, the Pandemic might have shut down any hopes for the Valiant comic-book movie universe. Though I believe that this universe of movies might still happen in the next 2 years.
There is a scene in the film where a bad guy: Tibbs, played by Alex Hernandez looked like he was regretting working for the wrong side, but he never turned. It would have been great to see him work with Bloodshot near the end of the movie, but maybe this is a hint that the character will return in a sequel.
Throughout the movie, there are hints of Bloodshot's new love interest, but becomes nothing more than that; the sequel if there is one might explore their relationship further, and I think that it would be more shocking and would probably serve the plot better if she dies: the filmmakers could kill her off in a third movie to make her death more impactful as the audience have been exposed to her for two movies and we can empathise with Bloodshot more, making us more invested in the plot.
One great thing was a character in the film who was the comedic relief, he was so great that it made the movie better to watch and I hope that he is another character that will be in the second and maybe third movie. Overall the movie was simple but great. Can't wait to see a sequel if it gets greenlit.
