My thoughts on DCU and the new Superman movie (2025)

When I first heard that there would be a new Superman movie without Cavill in the role of Superman, I was quite disappointed. However when information on the pre-production and production was being posted on social media, I was excited for the new era of the Man of Steel. Sadly though when the trailers came out the direction and acting choices that was selected for the Man of Steel made Corenswet much like a Manchild in the red yellow and blue. With that said, although I might not enjoy Corenswet's Superman the main character I'm intrigued by the other characters, such as Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho. I understand though that these other characters are not the main focus in the movie but knowing that James Gunn is focusing on world building for DC, these characters and more will get the TV show and movie treatments.  

There was a scene that was released part of the marketing for the movie, where we see another Kryptonian who looks like Cavill fighting Superman. Fans theories that Cavill will then be in this film as one of the bad guy characters, as cool as that may be it would have been cooler to see the Snyderverse come back under the Elseworlds banner. There were posts of social media suggesting that Zack Snyder could be involved in the return of his Justice League on Netflix, meaning we could see ZSJL2/3 and possibly Batfleck and MoS2. This would be great and all and I am hoping we will see these projects down the line in any form, easiest version of this would be in animation. However the closest that we might actually get with Zack Snyder being involved in some way with the DCU and Elseworlds would be a Dark Knight Returns project that might have Ben Affleck as the Cape Crusader. Zack from what I have seen on social media will be more than eager to bring the Dark Knight Returns to life. 

Thinking about the wider world of DC, two characters that are not thought of together is Two Face and Superman. Two Face is a character that views anything as a fair unbiased transaction and funny enough you can say the same for Superman. A being with all the power in the world treats people with fair options; the bad guy is given due process and the victim is given a second chance at life to live and provide their family and friends with a future. It would be interesting to see these characters pitted against each other, maybe Two Face's target is not so squeaky clean and should be killed in return but Superman believes that the target: a victim should be given due process or even a second chance. Maybe the target could be a character/villain from Batman's Rogues Gallery like Clay Face and maybe he was wrongfully accused of say killing Two Face's love one. 

I saw the film for a third time now and I must say that the story is so simple and straight forward, it kind of got a bit boring compared to how I feel when I watch MoS. I still enjoyed Superman, I just think I am biased being exposed to the Snyderverse and Cavill for so long. Maybe overtime I will accept that the chances of seeing Snyder's vision complete might never come to pass and thus think of Corenswet as the one true Superman.
