This movie was great for almost 3 hours long, even if you didn’t see the first movie you don’t need to in order to understand IT Chapter 2. As the movie has got Flashbacks to IT Chapter 1. The Flashbacks are new scenes that haven't been seen before. There are some elements of the story that require you to have seen the first movie however, they are small details that don’t distract you from watching this movie. Some fans and casual viewers have said that the movie being almost 3 hours long makes it a boring film, but I disagree. I think that the Flashbacks made up the length of the film, being the reason why its so long and from someone who hasn’t seen IT Chapter 1; if the Flashbacks weren’t in the second movie people like me wouldn’t understand and wouldn't be engaged in the movie.
I can’t wait to see IT Chapter 1 when it is out on Netflix or when I buy it on Blu-Ray. What made the movie so great was the young actors in the Flashbacks and their adult actors in present day. I think that they were so well acted you would believe that the adult actors were actually the older versions of the child actors. Even though the movie was great to me like The Conjuring, it wasn’t that scary. IT Chapter 2 only had a few jump scares, which I am grateful for and I hope IT Chapter 1 is scarier.
The only thing that scared me the most was a jump scare near the end of the movie that involved Pennywise jumping out of sewage water. What I found interesting in the film was the star cast of the adult characters, especially James McAvoy who plays Billy; a lot of the movie focuses on his character’s back story and his struggle to defeat Pennywise as an adult. It seems logical that the filmmakers would focus the story on McAvoy’s character, as the actor is well known to fans and would bring fans to seats in the cinema. I am not sure if the book focuses heavily on Billy and his story, as I didn’t read the book; but casting McAvoy as Billy makes sense. Another thing that I found interesting is the movie didn’t shy away from bloody deaths, when Pennywise was killing people, adults and children alike. The movie wasn’t even R-rated. I must give credit to the movie and the filmmakers for pushing the boundaries. Overall this movie was great with great acting from everyone and I can’t wait to see IT Chapter 1.
This movie had a great story but it wasn’t that scary. The scares started at 30 minutes through the film then stopped. Then started again 10 minutes later; after that, the scares kept coming. The movie wasn’t that scary because there weren’t any jump scares.
The film was set in 1971 and follows a family called the Perron. Who have gradual scares in their new farmhouse in Rhode Island, and Carolyn Perron played by Lili Taylor: the mother of 5 and wife to Roger Perron played by Ron Livingston hires the Warrens: Ed and Lorraine to help remove the dark entity from their home.
This movie was based on a real-life story and what was cool was Lorraine's psychic powers, where she can sense spirits. Her powers lead to really interesting scares and I must applaud the movie for that. Another thing that I have to give credit for: is the acting of all cast members, especially the 5 children of the Perrons; when they were scared, they were convincing, and when they didn’t believe that a demonic spirit was terrorising their family and their home they acted obliviously very well.
You know that it wouldn’t be a scary story if someone wasn’t possessed. Near the end of the movie, Carolyn Perron got possessed. This isn’t a spoiler as hints of this happened near the start of the movie, when the Perrons moved into their new farm home. When Carolyn got possessed it was some of the best acting and makeup work in the movie. In addition to Carolyn and her character development. Near the end of the movie one of the 5 daughters was being thrown throughout the house by her hair, being held by the demonic spirit. I am not sure if there was a stunt double but even if there was it was a great scene in the movie. To end this review; even though the movie wasn’t that scary the story and acting made up for it.
This movie is quite interesting as it doesn’t follow the usual Superhero genre of film, yet the movie plays out similarly to the Superman story with obvious differences. The super-powered character that you follow from the start of the film doesn’t develop into the good guy as the trailer shows. I’m hoping that this movie will start something like a more successful version of the Dark Universe and introduce a Superman character that will fight against our supervillain introduced in this movie. What was heartwarming from this movie was the relationship between our antagonist and his parents. I think the actor and actress who portrayed his parents did a very good job from loving their child to realising that their child is a monster.
I appreciate that this movie didn’t follow the usual formula of a horror movie. Instead had about two jump scare scenes.
In conclusion, I think that this movie was great balancing the Horror and Superhero genres. And, again I hope Brightburn starts a franchise of semi horror movies.
The New Mutants was a good installment of an X-Men movie, the film however doesn’t have the appeal of a traditional X-Men film and even though the script was weak, it offers a fresh perspective of an X-Men movie, which made me invested wanting more.
Additionally, even though the film was a Horror movie it wasn’t that scary. That was fine for me because I don’t like jump scares in Horror films. However, If the creators committed to making a full Horror version of the movie it would have been better. Maybe the MCU will do that since now, the MCU will make X-Men movies in the foreseeable future.
It was cool to see the fears of all the main characters in the film and this was the main driving plot of the movie. To me, it seems like the film sets a sequel when our heroes are set free from a secret facility at the end of the film.
The name of the organisation that kept our heroes as captives is the Essex Corporation and the founder of this company is Mr. Sinister, which means we might see him and his company in later Marvel movies. I believe this is a possibility as Mr. Sinister is a big name in the X-Men comics. His company logo was also seen in an end credit scene of the X-Men Apocalypse movie, which was supposed to lead into a Gambit X-Men movie. So we might see a Gambit and New Mutants crossover in later films as well.
I say that we might see the New Mutants again because unfortunately most of the audience didn't find these characters that appealing and I have a feeling Marvel could rehash these characters in future films to have a second attempt at trying to make the New Mutants great.
The X-Men were also mentioned which could be a hint that the New Mutants can be members of the X-Men in the MCU. My favorite character is Cannonball because his powers are cool and his backstory was quite sad which made me sympathise with the character and also made me more invested in the rest of the plot. Him being one of the main characters and waiting more of his story, I would love to see an origin story of his.
This movie has a same-sex relationship which I believe is the first in an X-Men related movie; it’s nice to see this as it raises awareness to the LGTBQ community. Overall although the writing for this movie was weak it developed great characters and I hope we can see them in later MCU movies.
